What I’ve been up to!

Time flies when you’re having fun, that’s for sure!

I have had a lot of good times working on the newest projects in my portfolio–and they are all so different! One for a teacher, another for a quilter, several family blogs, another for a fabric designer. There are screenshots on my Showoffs page, but I want to show you a few things here, too!

First off, how cool is this? (Click the picture to see it up close)

I totally recreated a quilt, digitally. Complete with real fabric prints, traditional blocks, and quilting! The fabric swatches are authentic reproduction prints from the Civil War era–it was amazing to figure out how to put it together, and I’m so in love with it! Attention quilters! If you have a quilt you’re in love with—you’re in luck! Let’s get together and make your blog show off your quilting skills!

Also, I had an awesome opportunity to do a blog makeover for a lovely lady named Lila Tueller. She is a pattern and fabric designer for Moda, and does the most amazing and darling things with fabric! She provided me with some of her latest designs, and I added a little sass, and her blog ended up beautiful, if I do say so myself!

I’m ready! I’m waiting! Sassyfruit Studios is officially open for business! And just to celebrate, we’re going to have A GIVEAWAY!

Because I’m a little bit closer to encapsulating my personality in pixels and .jpgs. And really, isn’t that what web design is all about? Opening up your home page and saying:

“Now THAT’s what I want people to know about me.”

Not in words, but in colors, and textures, and artwork. And that breath of fresh air that is just tinged with your personality.

So. Tell me about you. About your business. About your blog, and your life.

In a lot of ways, starting a business is like digging through your personality and trying to find the things about yourself you’re proud of, and then desperately hiding those things (we all have them) that you’d rather not see the light of day. Like crafting the persona you’re going to use when you attend your 10-year high school reunion. Because really, none of them have seen you in, well, 10 years, so really you can be anyone you want to be. Of course, for a long term thing like a business, the more you try to hide about yourself the harder it is to be authentic. The harder it is to have an original voice. An original style. And then of course, there’s the inevitable slip-up looming on the horizon. Cause you and I both know that if I meticulously craft a grungy gangsta website to reflect my super awesome new business, that one day those crafty colors and layouts are going to come crashing down on my head, and my customers will be like “where did THAT come from?”

So.

I’m working on my business identity. In the meantime, expect this site to change. Perhaps even drastically, until I settle in to something. Or until I change my mind. Again.

I’ve always wanted a place where I could share the creative stuff bouncing around in my head. A way to combine my love of colors, designs, and all things paper. A side business that might even pull in a bit of cash someday. So here it is: Sassy Fruit Studios! Here you will find my own designs for print (like stationery, announcements, and invitations), as well as custom web and blog design. I hope you enjoy being here as much as I do! I’m always looking for new ideas, as well as fresh and sassy people to call friends. Feel free to introduce yourself and stop back often, things are always changing!
